حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ رَأَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى عُمَرَ ثَوْبًا أَبْيَضَ فَقَالَ أَجَدِيدٌ ثَوْبُكَ أَمْ غَسِيلٌ فَقَالَ فَلَا أَدْرِي مَا رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْبَسْ جَدِيدًا وَعِشْ حَمِيدًا وَمُتْ شَهِيدًا أَظُنُّهُ قَالَ وَيَرْزُقُكَ اللَّهُ قُرَّةَ عَيْنٍ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ.

Abd al-Razzaq told us, Ma'mar told us, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from Ibn Umar, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saw Umar wearing a white garment and said, "Is your garment new or washed?" He said, "I do not know what he replied to him." Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Wear it new, live praised, and die a martyr" - I think he also said - "and may Allah grant you comfort of the eyes in this world and the next."
