'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Firas - Abu Salih informed me - from Zadhan, who said: I was with Ibn 'Umar, and he called a servant boy of his and freed him. Then he said: 'I have no reward in this - not even the weight of this,' or 'equal to this.' I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'Whoever strikes his slave for an offense he did not commit, or wrongs him, or slaps him' - 'Abd al-Rahman was unsure of the wording - 'then his atonement is to free him.'
