حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُدَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ الْعُقَيْلِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ وَأَنَا بَيْنَ السَّائِلِ وَبَيْنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيتَ الصُّبْحَ فَأَوْتِرْ بِرَكْعَةٍ قَالَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ عِنْدَ قَرْنِ الْحَوْلِ وَأَنَا بِذَاكَ الْمَنْزِلِ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ السَّائِلِ فَسَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيتَ الصُّبْحَ فَأَوْتِرْ بِرَكْعَةٍ.

Waki' narrated to us: 'Imran ibn Hudayr narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn Shaqiq al-'Uqayli, from Ibn 'Umar, who said: A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and asked him about the night prayer, while I was between the questioner and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: 'Two by two, and when you fear the approach of dawn, then perform witr with a single rak'ah.' He said: Then he came again at the turn of the year, and I was in that same position between him and the questioner, and he asked him again, and he said: 'Two by two, and when you fear the approach of dawn, then perform witr with a single rak'ah.'
