Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated to us, from al-Minhal ibn Amr: I heard Sa'id ibn Jubayr say: I was passing with Ibn Umar along one of the roads of Medina when we came upon some young men who had set up a hen and were shooting at it, each missing his mark. He became angry and said: Who did this? He said: They dispersed, and Ibn Umar said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed whoever mutilates an animal (for such purposes).
