Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Amr, from Isma'il al-Shaybani: "I sold what was on the tops of my palm trees for a hundred wasqs [measures] - if it increased, it would be theirs, and if it decreased, it would be theirs." So I asked Ibn 'Umar, and he said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade this, but permitted the 'araya [transaction of exchanging fresh dates on the tree for dried dates by estimate]."
