Aswad ibn Amir told us, Sharik told us, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Ubaydah, from his father, who said: "I came upon Abu Jahl while he had been wounded and his leg cut off." He said: "I began to strike him with my sword, but it did nothing to him." It was said to Sharik regarding the hadith, "and he was warding off blows with his sword?" He said: "Yes." He said: "I did not stop until I took his sword and struck him with it until I killed him." He said: Then he said: "I came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: 'Abu Jahl has been killed.'" And sometimes Sharik said: "'I have killed Abu Jahl.'" He said: "Did you see him yourself?" I said: "Yes." He said: "By Allah?" - twice. I said: "Yes." He said: "Then go so that I may look at him." So he went and came to him, and the sun had changed him somewhat. He ordered that he and his companions be dragged until they were thrown into the well. He said: And the people of the well were followed with a curse, and he said: "This was the Pharaoh of this nation." Aswad told us, Zuhayr told us, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Ubaydah, from Abdullah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: "This is the Pharaoh of my nation."
