Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Shu'bah informed us, from Mughirah, from Ibrahim, from Alqamah, that he arrived in Sham and entered the mosque of Damascus, prayed two rak'ahs in it, and said: "O Allah, grant me a righteous companion." He said: Then he came and sat with Abu al-Darda'. Abu al-Darda' said to him: "Where are you from?" He said: "From the people of Kufah." He said: "How did you hear Ibn Umm Abd recite 'By the night when it covers, and the day when it appears'?" Alqamah said: "And the male and the female." Abu al-Darda' said: "I heard it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), but these people have kept on until they nearly made me doubt." Then he said: "Was there not among you the companion of the cushion, and the keeper of the secret that no one else knew, and the one who was granted protection from Shaytan on the tongue of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?" The companion of the cushion was Ibn Mas'ud, the keeper of the secret was Hudhayfah, and the one granted protection from Shaytan was Ammar. Affan narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us. He said: Mughirah informed me. He said: I heard Ibrahim say: Alqamah went to Sham - and he mentioned the hadith.
