Hajjaj told us, from Ibn Jurayj, and Abd al-Razzaq said Ibn Jurayj informed us, he said Ata' informed me, from Habibah bint Maysarah ibn Abi Khuthaym, from Umm Bani Kurz al-Ka'biyyah, that she asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about the aqiqah, and he said, "For a boy, two equivalent sheep; and for a girl, one sheep." I said to Ata', "What are the equivalent ones?" He said, "The two alike." Hajjaj said in his hadith: "Sheep are more beloved to me than goats," and he mentioned that the male is more beloved to me than its females. He said: "And we like that its majority be made black."
