Abu Amir narrated to us: Zuhayr narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad, from Ali ibn Husayn, from Abu Rafi', the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, whenever he offered a sacrifice, would buy two fat, horned, black-and-white rams. When he had prayed and delivered the sermon to the people, one of them would be brought to him while he stood in his place of prayer, and he would slaughter it himself with the knife, then say, "O Allah, this is on behalf of my entire nation, from among those who bore witness to Your oneness and bore witness to my having conveyed the message." Then the other would be brought, and he would slaughter it himself, saying, "This is on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." He would give both of them to feed the poor, and he and his family would eat from them. He said: So we remained for years with no man of Banu Hashim offering a sacrifice, for Allah had spared him the expense through the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and the burden. Zakariyya ibn Adi narrated to us: Ubaydullah - meaning Ibn Amr - informed us, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Aqil, from Ali ibn al-Husayn, who mentioned it with his chain and its meaning.
