Ya'qub bin Ibrahim bin Sa'd told us: my father told me, from Salih bin Kaysan, and Ibn Shihab narrated from Abu Umamah bin Sahl, from Ibn 'Abbas, that he informed him that Khalid bin al-Walid entered with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, upon Maymunah bint al-Harith while she was menstruating. A dish of lizard meat was brought to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, which Umm Hufayd bint al-Harith had brought from Najd - she was married to a man from Banu Ja'far. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would not eat anything until he knew what it was. Some of the women said: "Will you not tell the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, what he is eating?" So they told him it was lizard meat, and he left it. Khalid said: "I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: 'Is it forbidden?' He said: 'No, but it is a food that is not found among my people, so I find myself averse to it.'" Khalid said: "So I pulled it towards myself and ate it while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was watching." He said: And al-Asamm narrated it to him, from Maymunah - and he was in her lap - meaning by this the hadith. And I think that al-Asamm is Yazid bin al-Asamm.
