Abu Kamil told us: Hammad - meaning Ibn Salamah - told us, from Yahya b. Abi Ishaq, from Sulayman b. Yasar, that Umar b. al-Khattab noticed the scent of perfume at Dhu al-Hulayfah, and said, "From whom is this scent?" Mu'awiyah said, "From me, O Commander of the Believers." He said, "From you indeed, upon my life!" Mu'awiyah said, "Umm Habibah perfumed me, and she claimed that she had perfumed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, at his entering the state of pilgrim consecration." He said, "Go and press her under oath that she wash it off." So he went back to her, and she washed it off.
