حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ أَتَتْ سَهْلَةُ بِنْتُ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو وَكَانَتْ تَحْتَ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ سَالِمًا مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْنَا وَإِنَّا فُضُلٌ وَإِنَّا كُنَّا نَرَاهُ وَلَدًا وَكَانَ أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ تَبَنَّاهُ كَمَا تَبَنَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَيْدًا فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ { ادْعُوهُمْ لِآبَائِهِمْ هُوَ أَقْسَطُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ } فَأَمَرَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ أَنْ تُرْضِعَ سَالِمًا فَأَرْضَعَتْهُ خَمْسَ رَضَعَاتٍ وَكَانَ بِمَنْزِلَةِ وَلَدِهَا مِنْ الرَّضَاعَةِ فَبِذَلِكَ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ تَأْمُرُ أَخَوَاتِهَا وَبَنَاتِ أَخَوَاتِهَا أَنْ يُرْضِعْنَ مَنْ أَحَبَّتْ عَائِشَةُ أَنْ يَرَاهَا وَيَدْخُلَ عَلَيْهَا وَإِنْ كَانَ كَبِيرًا خَمْسَ رَضَعَاتٍ ثُمَّ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْهَا وَأَبَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ وَسَائِرُ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُدْخِلْنَ عَلَيْهِنَّ بِتِلْكَ الرَّضَاعَةِ أَحَدًا مِنْ النَّاسِ حَتَّى يَرْضَعَ فِي الْمَهْدِ وَقُلْنَ لِعَائِشَةَ وَاللَّهِ مَا نَدْرِي لَعَلَّهَا كَانَتْ رُخْصَةً مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِسَالِمٍ مِنْ دُونِ النَّاسِ.

Ya'qub narrated to us, he said: Ibn Akhi Ibn Shihab narrated to us, from his uncle, who said: Urwa ibn al-Zubayr informed me, from Aisha, who said: Sahla bint Suhayl ibn Amr, who was married to Abu Hudhayfa ibn Utba, came to the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "Salim, the freedman of Abu Hudhayfa, enters upon us, and we are not fully covered, and we used to regard him as a son, for Abu Hudhayfa had adopted him as the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, had adopted Zayd." So God revealed, "Call them by their fathers' names; that is more just in the sight of God." So the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, at that point ordered her to nurse Salim, and she nursed him five times, and he became like her son through nursing. Because of that, Aisha used to instruct her sisters and her sisters' daughters to nurse whomever Aisha wished to be able to see her and enter upon her, even if he were grown, five times, and then he could enter upon her. But Umm Salama and the rest of the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, refused to let anyone be admitted to them by that kind of nursing unless he had nursed in infancy, and they said to Aisha, "By God, we do not know - perhaps it was only a special dispensation from the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, for Salim alone, apart from other people."
