حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ ابْتَاعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ الْأَعْرَابِ جَزُورًا أَوْ جَزَائِرَ بِوَسْقٍ مِنْ تَمْرِ الذَّخِرَةِ وَتَمْرُ الذَّخِرَةِ الْعَجْوَةُ فَرَجَعَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ وَالْتَمَسَ لَهُ التَّمْرَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْهُ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا قَدْ ابْتَعْنَا مِنْكَ جَزُورًا أَوْ جَزَائِرَ بِوَسْقٍ مِنْ تَمْرِ الذَّخْرَةِ فَالْتَمَسْنَاهُ فَلَمْ نَجِدْهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ وَا غَدْرَاهُ قَالَتْ فَنَهَمَهُ النَّاسُ وَقَالُوا قَاتَلَكَ اللَّهُ أَيَغْدِرُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَعُوهُ فَإِنَّ لِصَاحِبِ الْحَقِّ مَقَالًا ثُمَّ عَادَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّه إِنَّا ابْتَعْنَا مِنْكَ جَزَائِرَكَ وَنَحْنُ نَظُنُّ أَنَّ عِنْدَنَا مَا سَمَّيْنَا لَكَ فَالْتَمَسْنَاهُ فَلَمْ نَجِدْهُ فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ وَا غَدْرَاهُ فَنَهَمَهُ النَّاسُ وَقَالُوا قَاتَلَكَ اللَّهُ أَيَغْدِرُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَعُوهُ فَإِنَّ لِصَاحِبِ الْحَقِّ مَقَالًا فَرَدَّدَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا فَلَمَّا رَآهُ لَا يَفْقَهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ اذْهَبْ إِلَى خُوَيْلَةَ بِنْتِ حَكِيمِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ فَقُلْ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَكِ إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَكِ وَسْقٌ مِنْ تَمْرِ الذَّخِرَةِ فَأَسْلِفِينَاهُ حَتَّى نُؤَدِّيَهُ إِلَيْكِ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ فَذَهَبَ إِلَيْهَا الرَّجُلُ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ هُوَ عِنْدِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَابْعَثْ مَنْ يَقْبِضُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِلرَّجُلِ اذْهَبْ بِهِ فَأَوْفِهِ الَّذِي لَهُ قَالَ فَذَهَبَ بِهِ فَأَوْفَاهُ الَّذِي لَهُ قَالَتْ فَمَرَّ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ جَزَاكَ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا فَقَدْ أَوْفَيْتَ وَأَطْيَبْتَ قَالَتْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُولَئِكَ خِيَارُ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الْمُوفُونَ الْمُطِيبُونَ.

Ya'qub narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Hisham ibn Urwa narrated to me, from his father, from Aisha, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, bought a slaughter-camel or camels from a bedouin man for a load of dates of al-Dhakhira - and the dates of al-Dhakhira are the ajwa dates - and the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, returned home with it and sought the dates for him but could not find them. So the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, went out to him and said, "O servant of God, we bought from you a slaughter-camel or camels for a load of dates of al-Dhakhira, and we sought it but could not find it." The bedouin said, "What treachery!" She said: The people rebuked him and said, "May God fight you, does the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, break his word?" She said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Leave him, for the one owed a right has a claim to speak." Then the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, returned to him again and said, "O servant of God, we bought your camels from you, thinking we had what we had named for you, and we sought it but could not find it." The bedouin said, "What treachery!" The people rebuked him and said, "May God fight you, does the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, break his word?" The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Leave him, for the one owed a right has a claim to speak." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, repeated this two or three times. When he saw that he did not understand him, he said to a man among his companions, "Go to Khuwayla bint Hakim ibn Umayya and say to her: the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, says to you: if you have a load of dates of al-Dhakhira, lend it to us until we repay you, God willing." So the man went to her, then returned and said, "She said: yes, it is with me, O Messenger of God, so send someone to collect it." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said to the man, "Go with it and pay him in full what is owed to him." He said: So he went with it and paid him in full what was owed to him. She said: Then the bedouin passed by the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was sitting among his companions, and said, "May God reward you well, for you have paid in full and given good measure." She said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Those are the best of God's servants in God's sight on the Day of Resurrection - those who pay in full and give good measure."
