Umayyah asked Aisha about this verse: 'Whether you reveal what is in your souls or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it,' and about this verse: 'Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it.' She said: No one has asked me about these since I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about them. He said: "O Aisha, this is Allah's way of following up with His servant through what afflicts him of fever, mishap, and thorn prick, even the small item he puts in his sleeve and then loses it, becoming anxious, only to find it in his garment fold — until the believer comes out of his sins as pure gold comes out of the furnace."
