Abu al-Mughirah told us, saying: Safwan told us, saying: Abd al-Rahman b. Jubayr b. Nufayr told us, from his father, from Awf b. Malik al-Ashja'i, who said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and greeted him. He said, "Is that Awf?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Enter." I said, "Wholly, or partly?" He said, "Rather, wholly." He said, "O Awf, count six signs before the Hour, the first of which is my death." He said: I began to weep, until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) tried to quiet me. He said: I said, "One" — "and the second is the conquest of Jerusalem." I said, "Two" — "and the third is a widespread death that will occur in my Ummah, seizing them like the plague that strikes sheep." He said, "Three" — "and the fourth is a tribulation that will occur in my Ummah" — and he described it as immense — I said, "Four" — "and the fifth: wealth will overflow among you until a man is given a hundred dinars and is displeased with it." I said, "Five" — "and the sixth: a truce will occur between you and the Banu al-Asfar, and they will march against you under eighty banners." I said, "What is a banner?" He said, "A flag; under each flag will be twelve thousand men. The camp of the Muslims on that day will be in a land called al-Ghutah, in a city called Damascus."
