Hajjaj narrated to us: Sulayman ibn al-Mughira narrated to us, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Anas ibn Malik: Mahmud ibn al-Rabi' narrated to us, from Itban ibn Malik: I met Itban ibn Malik and said: What is this hadith that has reached me from you? He said: Then let me tell you. He said: There was something wrong with my eyesight, so I sent word to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: I would love for you to come to my house and pray in it, so that I might take it as a place of prayer. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came, along with whoever wished among his Companions. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed in his house, while his Companions were talking and mentioning the hypocrites and what they suffered from them, attributing the worst of it to Malik ibn al-Dukhayshin, and they wished that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would invoke against him and that harm would befall him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Does he not testify that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah? They said: O Messenger of Allah, he does say that, but it is not in his heart. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: No one testifies that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, but the Fire will be forbidden to feed on him, or the Fire will touch him. Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us: Ma'mar narrated to us, from al-Zuhri: Mahmud ibn al-Rabi' narrated to me, from Itban ibn Malik, who said: I came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said -- and he mentioned something similar. He said: Then I detained him for some khazir of ours that we had prepared for him, and the people of the valley -- meaning the people of the household -- heard of it, and they gathered until the house was full. Then a man said: Where is Malik ibn al-Dukhshun? He said: And he may have said al-Dukhayshin.
