Abu al-Yaman told us: Shu'ayb told us, from al-Zuhri: Abdullah ibn Tha'labah ibn Su'ayr al-Udhri told me, he said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had wiped his face at the time of the Conquest, that he saw Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas -- and Sa'd had witnessed Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) -- perform witr with a single rak'ah after the prayer of Isha, that is, al-Atamah, not adding to it until he would rise in the depth of the night.
