Ishaq ibn Yusuf narrated to us, he said: Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Alqamah ibn Marthad, from Sulayman ibn Buraydah, from his father, who said: A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and asked him about the time of the prayer. He said, 'Pray with us these two [days].' So he ordered Bilal, when dawn broke, and he gave the call to prayer; then he ordered him and he gave the iqamah. Then he ordered him and he gave the call to prayer for the noon prayer when the sun had passed its zenith; then he ordered him and he gave the iqamah. Then he ordered him and he gave the iqamah for the afternoon prayer while the sun was still high. Then he ordered him and he gave the iqamah for the sunset prayer when the upper edge of the sun had disappeared. Then he ordered him, when the twilight had disappeared, and he gave the iqamah for the night prayer, and he prayed. Then the next day he ordered him and he gave the iqamah for the dawn prayer, delaying it until it grew bright. Then he ordered him, and he delayed the noon prayer until it was cool, being thorough in delaying it until it cooled. Then he prayed the afternoon prayer while the sun was still white, delaying it further than what he had ordered before. Then he gave the iqamah for the sunset prayer before the twilight disappeared. Then he ordered him and he gave the iqamah for the night prayer when a third of the night had passed. Then he said, 'Where is the one who asked about the time of the prayer?' The man said, 'Here I am, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'The time of your prayers is between what you have [just] seen.'
