Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ghanm, from Abu Malik al-Ash'ari, that he said to his people: 'Gather, and I will lead you in the prayer of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.' When they had gathered, he said: 'Is there among you anyone who is not one of you?' They said: 'No, except a nephew of ours, the son of our sister.' He said: 'The sister's son of a people is one of them.' So he called for a basin containing water, performed ablution, rinsed his mouth and inhaled water into his nose, washed his face three times and his forearms three times each, wiped over his head and the backs of his feet, then led them in prayer, saying 'Allahu Akbar' with them twenty-two times, saying the takbir whenever he prostrated and whenever he raised his head from prostration, and he recited the Opening of the Book (al-Fatihah) in the two rak'ahs, making it audible to whoever was next to him.
