حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ يَقُولُ كَانَ رِجَالٌ يُصَلُّونَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَاقِدِي أُزُرِهِمْ عَلَى رِقَابِهِمْ كَهَيْئَةِ الصِّبْيَانِ فَيُقَالُ لِلنِّسَاءِ لَا تَرْفَعْنَ رُءُوسَكُنَّ حَتَّى يَسْتَوِيَ الرِّجَالُ جُلُوسًا.

Abd ar-Rahman ibn Mahdi told us: Sufyan told us, from Abu Hazim, who said: I heard Sahl ibn Sa'd say: Men used to pray with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with their waist-wrappers tied around their necks like the manner of children, so the women would be told: Do not raise your heads until the men are sitting upright.
