حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُخْبِرَنَا بِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ فَتَلَاحَى رَجُلَانِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجْتُ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُخْبِرَكُمْ بِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ فَتَلَاحَى رَجُلَانِ فَرُفِعَتْ وَعَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ خَيْرًا لَكُمْ فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِي التَّاسِعَةِ أَوْ السَّابِعَةِ أَوْ الْخَامِسَةِ.

Muhammad ibn Abi Adi told us, from Humayd, from Anas, from Ubada ibn al-Samit, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came out to us wanting to inform us of the Night of Decree, but two men were quarreling, so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I came out wanting to inform you of the Night of Decree, but two men were quarreling, so its knowledge was withdrawn, and perhaps that is better for you. So seek it on the ninth, the seventh, or the fifth.
