Abu al-Mughira narrated to us: Mu'an ibn Rifa'a narrated to us: Ali ibn Yazid narrated to me, from al-Qasim Abu Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Umama, who said: We sat with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he reminded us and softened our hearts, so Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas wept, weeping profusely, and said, "Would that I had died!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Sa'd, do you wish for death in my presence?" He repeated that three times, then said, "O Sa'd, if you were created for Paradise, then whether your life grows long or your deeds grow good, it is better for you."
