حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ وَعَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ عَنْ هِشَامٍ وَأَزْهَرَ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ صَاحِبِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ الْحِمْصِيُّ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الْوُضُوءُ يُكَفِّرُ مَا قَبْلَهُ ثُمَّ تَصِيرُ الصَّلَاةُ نَافِلَةً فَقِيلَ لَهُ أَسَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نَعَمْ غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ وَلَا مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَا ثَلَاثٍ وَلَا أَرْبَعٍ وَلَا خَمْسٍ.

Muhammad ibn Bishr told us: Sa'id ibn Abi Arubah told us, from Qatadah, from Shahr ibn Hawshab; and Abd al-Wahhab, from Hisham; and Azhar ibn al-Qasim told us: Hisham told us, from Qatadah, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Abu Umamah, the companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him — and Abd al-Wahhab said: Abu Umamah al-Himsi, the companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him — that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The ablution expiates what came before it, then the prayer becomes an added merit. It was said to him: Did you hear it from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him? He said: Yes, not once, nor twice, nor three times, nor four times, nor five times.
