حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ قَالَ كُنَّا نَأْتِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ فَيُحَدِّثُنَا فَقَالَ لَنَا ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَالَ إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَا الْمَالَ لِإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ وَلَوْ كَانَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادٍ لَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِلَيْهِ ثَانٍ وَلَوْ كَانَ لَهُ وَادِيَانِ لَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِلَيْهِمَا ثَالِثٌ وَلَا يَمْلَأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ ثُمَّ يَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ.

Abu 'Amir told us, Hisham b. Sa'd told us, from Zayd b. Aslam, from 'Ata' b. Yasar, from Abu Waqid al-Laythi, who said: We used to come to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when something was revealed to him, and he would narrate to us. One day he said to us: "Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: 'We have sent down wealth for the establishment of prayer and the giving of zakat.' And if the son of Adam had one valley, he would love to have a second; and if he had two valleys, he would love to have a third; and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust — then Allah turns in forgiveness to whoever repents."
