Ibn Numayr told us: Malik, meaning Ibn Mighwal, told us, from al-Hakam, from Abu Umar, from Abu al-Darda, who said: A man stayed as a guest with Abu al-Darda, and Abu al-Darda said: 'Am I staying so we let the animals graze freely, or am I traveling so we should feed them fodder?' He said: 'Rather, traveling.' He said: 'Then I will provide you with provisions - if I could find something better than it, I would provide it to you. I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the rich have taken this world and the hereafter - we pray and they pray, we fast and they fast, and they give charity while we cannot give charity." He said: "Shall I not direct you to something which, if you do it, no one before you would surpass you, and no one after you would reach you, except one who does the same as you do: after every prayer, say Subhan Allah thirty-three times, Alhamdulillah thirty-three times, and Allahu Akbar thirty-four times."'
