Yazid told us: Hammam informed us, from Qatada, from Sa'id ibn Abi al-Hasan, from Abdullah ibn Samit, who said: I was with Abu Dharr when his stipend came out, and he had a slave-girl of his who was carrying out his needs — he said once "we were carrying out" — and some of it was left over with him. He said: I think he said seven. He said: So he ordered her to buy small coins with it. I said: "O Abu Dharr, why don't you save it for a need that might befall you, or for a guest who might come to you?" He said: "My close friend charged me that whatever gold or silver is hoarded away, it will be burning coals for its owner on the Day of Resurrection, until he spends it fully in the way of Allah."
