Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Muqaddami narrated to us: Abd al-Aziz ibn Muhammad ad-Darawardi narrated to us: Umarah ibn Ghaziyyah narrated to us, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Sa'sa'ah ibn Suhan, who said: He and a group with him came upon a whip [lying on the ground], and his companion picked it up; we neither told him to nor forbade him. Then I came to Medina, and Ubayy ibn Ka'b met us, so we asked him [about picking up a lost item]. He said: "I found a hundred dinars in the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and I asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about it. He said: 'Announce it publicly for a year.'" He repeated this to him until he had mentioned three years. I said: "O Messenger of Allah..." He said: "It is yours to deal with as you wish."
