'Uthman ibn 'Umar told us, Yunus informed us, from al-Zuhri, who said: Sahl al-Ansari said -- and he had met the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was fifteen years old at that time -- Ubayy ibn Ka'b, may Allah be pleased with them both, told me that the ruling which they used to state, "Water follows only from water," was a concession the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had granted at the beginning of Islam, but then he commanded us to perform the full ritual bath after it.
