حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ قَالَ أَخَّرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْعِشَاءَ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثَمَانِ لَيَالٍ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَوْ أَنَّكَ عَجَّلْتَ لَكَانَ أَمْثَلَ لِقِيَامِنَا مِنْ اللَّيْلِ قَالَ فَعَجَّلَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ أَبِي وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ فَقَالَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَقَالَ عَفَّانُ تِسْعَ لَيَالٍ.

Rawh and Abu Dawud told us - they said: Hammad ibn Salamah told us - Abu Dawud said: Ali ibn Zayd told us, from al-Hasan, from Abu Bakrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, delayed the night prayer for seven nights - Abu Dawud said: eight nights - until a third of the night had passed. Abu Bakr said: "O Messenger of Allah, if you were to pray it earlier, it would be better for our night vigil." He said: So he prayed it earlier after that. My father said: and Abd al-Samad told us, and he said in his hadith "seven nights," while Affan said "nine nights."
