Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Bahz, who said: my father informed me, from my grandfather, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I did not come to you until I had sworn more than the number of these" - striking one of his hands upon the other - "not to come to you nor to your religion. And I have come to a people among whom I understand nothing except what Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and His Messenger have taught me. I ask you by the face of Allah: with what did our Lord send you to us?" He said, "With Islam." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, and what is the sign of Islam?" He said, "That you say, 'I have submitted my face to Allah and forsaken other than Him,' that you establish the prayer, and that you pay the zakat. Every Muslim is inviolable to every other Muslim; two brothers, helpers of one another. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, does not accept from a polytheist any deed after he becomes Muslim if he associates partners again, unless he separates from the polytheists to join the Muslims. What is wrong with me, that I hold back your waist-wraps from the Fire? Indeed, my Lord will call me and ask me whether I conveyed the message to His servants, and I will say, 'Lord, I have indeed conveyed it to them.' So let the one present among you convey it to the one who is absent. Then you will be summoned, your mouths stopped up with a plug, and the first thing to make clear about one of you will be" - and he said that at Wasit it was interpreted by a translator - and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his hand upon his thigh.
