Muhammad ibn Jafar narrated to us, Awf narrated to us, from Abu al-Minhal, who said: My father said to me: 'Come with me to Abu Barzah al-Aslami.' So I went with him until we entered his house, and he was sitting in the shade of an upper story made of reeds. We sat with him on an extremely hot day. My father asked him: 'Tell me, how did the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) pray the obligatory prayers?' He said: 'He would pray the midday prayer, which you call the first, when the sun had passed its zenith. He would pray the Asr, and then one of us would return to his dwelling at the farthest end of Madinah while the sun was still lively.' He said: 'I forgot what he said about Maghrib.' He said: 'He used to prefer delaying the Isha, which you call the Atamah.' He said: 'He disliked sleeping before it and conversing after it.' He said: 'He would finish the Fajr prayer when one of us could recognize his companion sitting next to him, and he would recite between sixty and one hundred verses.'
