Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'bah told us, from al-Azraq ibn Qays, who said: Abu Barzah was at al-Ahwaz on the bank of a river, having put the reins in his hand, and he began to pray, while the mount kept pulling back, and he kept moving back with it. A man of the Kharijites began to say, "O Allah, disgrace this old man - how he prays!" When he finished praying, he said, "I have heard your words. I fought alongside the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, six, or seven, or eight campaigns, and I witnessed his conduct and his ease in religion, and my going back with my mount was easier for me than leaving it, for it would go back to its familiar place and that would be hard on me." And Abu Barzah prayed the Asr prayer as two rak'ahs.
