Hushaym narrated to us: al-Shaybani informed us, from Muhammad ibn Abi al-Mujalid, the client of Banu Hashim, who said: Ibn Shaddad and Abu Burdah sent me and said, "Go to Ibn Abi Awfa and say to him: Abd Allah ibn Shaddad and Abu Burdah convey their greetings to you and ask: Did you used to make advance-payment sales in the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, for wheat, barley, and raisins?" He said, "Yes, we used to obtain spoils of war in the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and we would sell them in advance for wheat, barley, dates, and raisins." I said, "From those who had crops, or from those who had none?" He said, "We did not ask them about that." He said: And they said to me, "Go to Abd al-Rahman ibn Abza and ask him." So he went and asked him, and he said the same as Ibn Abi Awfa had said. And likewise Abu Mu’awiyah narrated it to us, from Za’idah, from al-Shaybani, who added, "and oil."
