Yahya ibn Sa'id told us, from Abu Hayyan, who said: al-Dahhak, the maternal uncle of al-Mundhir ibn Jarir, told me, from al-Mundhir ibn Jarir, from Jarir, who said: I was with my father Jarir at al-Bawarij in al-Sawad, and I went to check on the cattle, and he saw a cow he did not recognize. He said, "What is this cow?" It was said, "A cow that joined the herd." He ordered it driven away until it disappeared, then said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, 'None shelters a stray animal except one who is himself astray.'"
