Ya'qub - meaning Ibn Ibrahim - told us, my father told us, from al-Walid ibn Kathir: Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Halhala al-Du'ali told me that Ibn Shihab told him that Ali ibn al-Husayn told him that when they came to Medina from Yazid ibn Mu'awiya after the killing of Husayn ibn Ali, al-Miswar ibn Makhrama met him and said, "Do you have any need that you would ask of me?" He said: I said to him, "No." He said to him, "Will you give me the sword of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him? For I fear that these people will overpower you and take it from you. By Allah, if you give it to me, it will never be taken from me until my soul departs. Ali ibn Abi Talib proposed marriage to the daughter of Abu Jahl in addition to Fatima, and I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, addressing the people about that from this pulpit of his - and I was on the verge of puberty on that day - and he said, 'Fatima is a part of me, and I fear that she may be tried in her religion.'" He said: Then he mentioned an in-law of his from Banu Abd Shams and praised him well for his relation to him by marriage, and said, "He spoke to me and was truthful with me, and he promised me and fulfilled his promise to me. I do not make lawful what is forbidden, nor do I forbid what is lawful, but by Allah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and the daughter of the enemy of Allah shall never come together in one place, ever."
