Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'bah told us, from Amr ibn Murrah, who said: I heard Abdullah ibn Salamah say: I saw Ammar on the day of Siffin - an old man, dark-complexioned, tall - holding a spear in his hand, his hand trembling. He said: "By the One in whose hand is my soul, I fought under this banner with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) three times, and this is the fourth. By the One in whose hand is my soul, even if they struck us until they drove us to the peaks of Hajar, I would still know that our side is upon the truth and that they are upon misguidance."
