Yahya ibn Adam told us, Fudayl - that is, Ibn 'Iyad - told us, from Mansur, from Sa'd ibn 'Ubaydah, from al-Bara' ibn 'Azib, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "When you go to your bed, perform ablution, then lie on your right side and say: 'O Allah, I have submitted my face to You, entrusted my affair to You, and committed my back to You, in fear and hope of You; there is no refuge and no escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.' Then if you die, you die upon the natural disposition of Islam." 'Ali ibn Ishaq told us, 'Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak informed us, Sufyan informed us, from Mansur, from Sa'd ibn 'Ubaydah, who related it with its chain and its meaning, and said: "perform the ablution as you would for prayer," and said: "make these the last words you speak." He said: I repeated it back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and when I reached 'I believe in Your Book which You have revealed,' I said 'and Your messenger,' and he said, 'No: and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.'"
