Hushaym told us: Sayyar informed us, and Mughira informed us, and Dawud informed us, from al-Sha'bi; and Isma'il b. Salim and Mujalid, from al-Sha'bi, from al-Nu'man b. Bashir, who said: My father gave me a gift - Isma'il b. Salim said: among the people, he gave him a slave boy. My mother, Amra bint Rawaha, said to him, "Go to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and have him witness it." So he went to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and mentioned that to him, saying, "I have given my son al-Nu'man a gift, and Amra asked me to have you witness it." He said, "Do you have another child besides him?" He said, "I said: Yes." He said, "Have you given all of them the same as you gave al-Nu'man?" He said, "No." Some of these narrators said he then said, "This is injustice"; others said he said, "This is being pressed into something, so have someone other than me witness it." Mughira said in his account: "Would it not please you that they be equal to you in kindness and gentleness?" He said, "Yes." He said, "Then have someone other than me witness this." And Mujalid mentioned in his account: "They have a right upon you that you deal justly between them, just as you have a right upon them that they be dutiful to you."
