حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ يَقُولُ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَرِمَ قَدَمَاهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ قَالَ أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا.

Abd al-Rahman told us, Sufyan told us, from Ziyad ibn Ilaqah, who said: I heard al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah say: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to pray until his feet swelled. It was said to him, "Has God not forgiven you your past and future sins?" He said, "Should I not then be a grateful servant?"
