Abd al-Samad told us, Ziyad ibn Muslim, Abu Umar, told us, Abu al-Ash'ath al-San'ani told us, he said: Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah sent us to Ibn al-Zubayr. When I arrived in Medina, I entered upon so-and-so — Ziyad forgot his name — and he said, "The people have done what they have done; what do you think?" He said, "My close friend Abu al-Qasim, peace and blessings be upon him, advised me: if you encounter any of these tribulations, go to Uhud and break the edge of your sword there, then sit in your house." He said, "And if someone enters upon you in the house, go to the inner chamber; and if he enters upon you in the inner chamber, then kneel on your knees and say, 'Bear my sin and your sin,' so that you become one of the people of the Fire, and that is the recompense of the wrongdoers." He said, "So I have broken the edge of my sword and sat in my house."
