حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا هُرَيْمٌ عَنْ لَيْثٍ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسًا إِذْ شَخَصَ بِبَصَرِهِ ثُمَّ صَوَّبَهُ حَتَّى كَادَ أَنْ يُلْزِقَهُ بِالْأَرْضِ قَالَ ثُمَّ شَخَصَ بِبَصَرِهِ فَقَالَ أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام فَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَضَعَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ بِهَذَا الْمَوْضِعِ مِنْ هَذِهِ السُّورَةِ { إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَى وَيَنْهَى عَنْ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ }.

Aswad ibn Amir narrated to us: Hurayn narrated to us, from Layth, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Uthman ibn Abi al-'As, who said: I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he raised his gaze, then lowered it until it nearly touched the ground, then he raised his gaze again, and said: 'Gabriel, peace be upon him, came to me and commanded me to place this verse at this place in this surah: {Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded}.'
