Abd al-Rahman told us, Mu'awiyah — meaning Ibn Salih — told us, from Rabi'ah, from Abu Idris al-Khawlani, from Uqbah ibn Amir, who said — and Abu Uthman also narrated it to him from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from Uqbah ibn Amir, who said: We were in charge of herding the camels, and my turn came. I brought them back in the evening and found the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, standing, speaking to the people. I caught this part of his words: 'There is no Muslim who performs ablution and performs it well, then stands and prays two rak'ahs, devoting his heart and face to them, except that Paradise becomes obligatory for him.' I said: How excellent this is! Then someone in front of me said: What came before it is even more excellent. I looked, and it was Umar ibn al-Khattab. He said: I saw that you had just arrived. He (the Prophet) said: There is none among you who performs ablution and completes it well, then says: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, except that the eight gates of Paradise are opened for him, and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes.
