Hammad ibn Khalid narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, from Bahir ibn Sa'd, from Khalid ibn Ma'dan, from Kathir ibn Murrah, from 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The one who recites the Qur'an aloud is like the one who gives charity openly, and the one who recites the Qur'an quietly is like the one who gives charity secretly." Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: Hammad ibn Khalid had a strong memory, and he used to narrate to us from memory; I and Yahya ibn Ma'in wrote down from him.
