حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَوْفٍ وَهُوَ حَلِيفُ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ وَكَانَ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ إِلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ يَأْتِي بِجِزْيَتِهَا وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ صَالَحَ أَهْلَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ وَأَمَّرَ عَلَيْهِمْ الْعَلَاءَ بْنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ فَقَدِمَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بِمَالٍ مِنْ الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَسَمِعَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ بِقُدُومِهِ فَوَافَتْ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ انْصَرَفَ فَتَعَرَّضُوا لَهُ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ رَآهُمْ فَقَالَ أَظُنُّكُمْ قَدْ سَمِعْتُمْ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ قَدْ جَاءَ وَجَاءَ بِشَيْءٍ قَالُوا أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَأَبْشِرُوا وَأَمِّلُوا مَا يَسُرُّكُمْ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا الْفَقْرَ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَكِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ تُبْسَطَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا بُسِطَتْ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَتَنَافَسُوهَا كَمَا تَنَافَسُوهَا وَتُلْهِيكُمْ كَمَا أَلْهَتْهُمْ حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدٌ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَوْفٍ وَهُوَ حَلِيفُ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ وَكَانَ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ.

Ya'qub narrated to us: my father narrated to us, from Salih - Ibn Shihab said: Urwa b. al-Zubayr informed me that al-Miswar b. Makhrama informed him that Amr b. Awf, the ally of Banu Amir b. Lu'ayy, who had witnessed Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), informed him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Abu Ubayda b. al-Jarrah to Bahrayn to bring its tribute. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had himself made peace with the people of Bahrayn, and had appointed al-Ala' b. al-Hadrami over them. Abu Ubayda came with wealth from Bahrayn, and the Ansar heard of his arrival, so they came for the Dawn prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the Dawn prayer, he departed, and they intercepted him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled when he saw them, and said: "I think you have heard that Abu Ubayda has come, bringing something with him." They said: "Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Then rejoice and hope for what will please you. By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but rather I fear that the world will be spread out before you as it was spread out before those who came before you, and you will compete for it as they competed for it, and it will divert you as it diverted them." Sa'd narrated to us: my father narrated to me, from Salih, from Ibn Shihab, who said: Urwa b. al-Zubayr informed me that al-Miswar b. Makhrama informed him that Amr b. Awf, the ally of Banu Amir b. Lu'ayy, who had witnessed Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), informed him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Abu Ubayda - and he mentioned the like of it.
