He said: Abu al-Nadr told us, he said: Abu Mu'awiyah - meaning Shayban - told us, from Layth, from Shahr, who said: The Ansari man, the one in charge of the sacrificial camels of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, told me that when the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, sent him [with the camels, he asked what to do if one of them became disabled]. He said: I returned and said, "Yes, O Messenger of God, what do you command me regarding any of them that becomes disabled?" He said, "Slaughter it, then dip its sandal in its blood, then place it on its flank or on its side, and do not eat from it - neither you nor anyone among your traveling companions."
