Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'bah told us, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Habban, who said: A slave-boy of al-Nu'man al-Ansari stole some small palm shoots, and the matter was brought before Marwan, who intended to have his hand cut off. Rafi' ibn Khadij said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'There is no [hand-]cutting for fruit still on the tree, nor for palm-heart.'" I said to Yahya: "What is al-kathar?" He said: "The heart of the palm-tree."
