حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْبَيْلَمَانِيِّ قَالَ اجْتَمَعَ أَرْبَعَةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى يَقْبَلُ تَوْبَةَ الْعَبْدِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمُوتَ بِيَوْمٍ فَقَالَ الثَّانِي أَأَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ وَأَنَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى يَقْبَلُ تَوْبَةَ الْعَبْدِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمُوتَ بِنِصْفِ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ الثَّالِثُ أَأَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ وَأَنَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى يَقْبَلُ تَوْبَةَ الْعَبْدِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمُوتَ بِضَحْوَةٍ قَالَ الرَّابِعُ أَأَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَأَنَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَقْبَلُ تَوْبَةَ الْعَبْدِ مَا لَمْ يُغَرْغِرْ بِنَفَسِهِ.

Four Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) gathered together. One of them said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: Indeed, Allah the Blessed and Exalted accepts the repentance of a servant one day before his death.' The second said: 'Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'And I heard the Messenger of Allah say: Indeed, Allah accepts the repentance of a servant half a day before his death.' The third said: 'Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'And I heard the Messenger of Allah say: Indeed, Allah accepts the repentance of a servant a forenoon before his death.' The fourth said: 'Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Yes, and I heard the Messenger of Allah say: Indeed, Allah accepts the repentance of a servant as long as his soul has not reached his throat.'
