حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ يَعْنِي الثَّوْرِيَّ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِحَاجَةٍ فَجِئْتُ وَهُوَ يَسِيرُ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ وَوَجْهُهُ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْمَشْرِقِ وَهُوَ يُومِئُ إِيمَاءً فَكَلَّمْتُهُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي.

Yazid informed us, Sufyan, that is al-Thawri, informed us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent me on an errand. I came while he was traveling on his mount, his face toward the east, gesturing. I spoke to him, but he did not respond to me. When he finished, he said, "I was praying."
