Muhammad ibn Sabiq told us, Ibrahim ibn Tahman told us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, that he said: A Jewish woman in Medina gave birth to a boy whose eye was disfigured, protruding and bulging. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was apprehensive that he might be the Dajjal. He found him under a blanket, murmuring. His mother alerted him, saying: O Abdullah, this is Abu al-Qasim - come out to him. So he came out from under the blanket. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: What is wrong with her? May Allah fight her! Had she left him, he would have made things clear. Then he said: O Ibn Sayyad, what do you see? He said: I see truth and I see falsehood, and I see a throne upon the water. He said: So it was confused for him. He said: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? He said: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? So the Messenger of Allah said: I believe in Allah and His messengers. Then he left him. Later he came to him again another time and found him among some palm trees, murmuring. His mother alerted him, saying: O Abdullah, this is Abu al-Qasim, he has come. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: What is wrong with her? May Allah fight her! Had she left him, he would have made things clear. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was hoping to hear something of his speech so as to know whether he was him or not. He said: O Ibn Sayyad, what do you see? He said: I see truth and I see falsehood, and I see a throne upon the water. He said: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? He said: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I believe in Allah and His messenger. So it was confused for him. Then he left him again. Then he came a third or fourth time, and with him were Abu Bakr and Umar ibn al-Khattab among a group of the Emigrants and Helpers, and I was with him. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, hurried ahead of us, hoping to hear something of his speech, but his mother reached him before he did, and said: O Abdullah, this is Abu al-Qasim, he has come. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: What is wrong with her? May Allah fight her! Had she left him, he would have made things clear. He said: O Ibn Sayyad, what do you see? He said: I see truth and I see falsehood, and I see a throne upon the water. He said: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? He said: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I believe in Allah and His messengers. So it was confused for him. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: O Ibn Sayyad, we have hidden something for you - what is it? He said: The smoke, the smoke. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: Be off, be off! Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Give me permission, O Messenger of Allah, to kill him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: If he is him, you are not the one to deal with him - his slayer will be Isa son of Maryam, peace and blessings be upon him. And if he is not him, then it is not for you to kill a man under a covenant of protection. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, remained apprehensive that he might be the Dajjal.
