Yunus told us, 'Abd al-Rahman - meaning Ibn al-Ghasil - told us, Shurahbil Abu Sa'd told me that he entered upon Jabir ibn Abdullah while he was praying in a single garment, with other garments around him. When he finished his prayer, he said: I said, "May Allah forgive you, O Abu Abdullah, you pray in a single garment while these are your other garments beside you?" He said, "I wanted a fool like you to come in and see me praying in a single garment. Did every companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, have two garments?" Then Jabir began to narrate to us and said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "When the garment is wide enough, wrap it over your shoulders and then pray; and when it is too narrow for that, tie it around your waist and then pray without an upper wrap."
